Karnataka Legislative Council Chairman Basavaraj Horatti on Monday resigned from the post of Council Chairman as well as the member of the Legislative Council. Basavaraj Horatti sent his resignation letters – for the membership of Council and Chairman’s post of Legislative Council – to Deputy Chairman of Legislative Council.

Recently, he had announced in Dharwad about his plan to resign for the post of Legislative Council Chairman on May 18 but he advanced his decision to quit the post today.

It may be recalled that Horatti met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Bengaluru on May 3. He got elected to the Legislative Council on a JD(S) ticket. He announced in April that he would contest the forthcoming MLC polls from Karnataka West Teachers’ constituency on a BJP ticket. He may join BJP officially on May 17. Meanwhile, former MLC Mohan Limbakki is also trying to contest as a BJP candidate from Karnataka West Teachers’ constituency.
