Let us analyse
The movie begins with Nitya (Jyothi Roy) falling in love with Michael (Anup Sagar). Nitya gives birth to a baby girl Myna (Dhanika Hegde). The couple comes to know that their daughter is suffering from autism. Michael and his father try to avoid Myna. Difference of opinions make Nitya to get separated from Michael. She tries for a job and gets it but she has to suffer a lot due her lecherous boss Shubhakar (Aravinda Rao). Unable to bear with embarrassment and difficulties, Nitya tries to commit suicide with her daughter Myna. What happens to them is the climax.
Artistes’ performance:
Veteran actor Suhashini Maniratnam makes a brief appearance but it is very important. Jyothi Roy, who got the major role for the first time, has acted well. She has the potential to compete with established heroines in Sandalwood. Dhanika Hegde, as a girl with autism, walks away with all honours with her sterling performance.
Highlights:
Songs, especially the song Haadokke barda idda sung by Shriya Woodi and the other song Solane Hottu sung by Archana Udupa, are meaningful. The acting of Jyothi Roy and Suhashini Manirathnam and Dhanika Hegde.
Drawbacks:
No comedy.
Analysis
The movie Varnapatala conveys the much needed message to society on how treat children with autism. It motivates parents who have children with autism. Director Cheran Mundadi, who received a National Award for directing a Tulu film Madipu, deserves appreciation for selecting this subject - autism.
Bottom-line: It is worth watching by all.
